The ranking of the world’s best-selling motorcycle brands in 2024 are dominated by Japanese companies, with more than 45% of the world’s market, followed by Indian brands, with more than 30%, and Chinese manufacturers. In the Top 10 are 5 Indian companies, 3 Japanese makers, 1 Chinese company and 1 Mexican brand. Honda has been the irrefutable leader for the past 50 years, with 32% of the world’s market.
In 2024, the world’s motorcycle industry (including mopeds, scooters, motorcycles and underbones) set an all-time sales record, breaking the record set in 2018 and showing a recovery of nearly 10 million units over the negative results of 2020. This represented a tremendous boost for the industry that is expected to continue to grow over the next decade.
The leader in 2024, as in the last 50 years, is Honda, with a market share of 32%. This year Honda recorded a sales increase of 6.0%, reaching 19.4 million units.
In second place is the Indian company, Hero Motor, which captured its spot in the ranking with 5.9 million sales (+6.9%).
Yamaha is situated in third place, with 4.6 million (+4,2 %), while Yadea, specialized in electric vehicles, holds down fourth place with 4.3 million bikes sold (-13.0%).
TVS Motor, is fifth, with 3.7 million (+12.6%) in sales, with Bajaj Auto in sixth place with 3.1 million in sales (+9.3%).
Suzuki holds seventh place, with 2.0 million in sales (+6.1%), followed by the fastest brand to break into the ranking, the Mexican company Italika, with 1.3 million bikes sold in 2024 (+35.8%).
In ninth place is Zongshen, with 1 million sales (+3.4%), and finally, in tenth place, is Royal Enfield, with 948,000 sales (+5.1%).
It should be mentioned that this ranking considers the number of units sold, not the value of the vehicle sales, so world leaders in high-end products such as the European BMW and the American Harley-Davidson do not appear.
